Rainbow, spicy tuna and our own answer to the dragon roll — the rolls people come looking for by name, on the menu at Aikawa in Dollard-des-Ormeaux.
A rainbow roll is a California roll with slices of different fish laid across the top, so the finished roll reads as bands of colour. Ours uses tuna, salmon, crabstick, tamago, cucumber and fish roe.
A spicy tuna roll is chopped red tuna mixed with a chilli mayonnaise. We serve it as a thin roll, and it also forms the base of several of our bigger rolls.
A dragon roll usually means eel and cucumber inside with avocado fanned over the top. We do not use that name, but the roll exists here as Aikawa Eel — eel, tempura shrimp, cucumber, oshinko and fried onion.
Aikawa is at Galeries des Sources in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, in the middle of the West Island. If you have been searching for a rainbow roll, a spicy tuna roll or a dragon roll near you, we are a short drive from most of the island’s west end.
Want several at once? The Bonsai combo ($33) and Sushi & Sashimi ($35) both include chef’s specialty rolls chosen by the kitchen.
Not under that name. The equivalent on our menu is Aikawa Eel ($12.50) — eel, tempura shrimp, cucumber, oshinko and fried onion — or Ocean Kiss ($27) if you want it topped with salmon and avocado.
Mild to medium. It is a chilli mayonnaise, not raw chilli. If you want real heat, order the Harakiri, which has fresh chilli in it.
Rainbow ($13.75) is a rolled futomaki with rice. Rainbow Sashimi ($24) is nine slices of fish with no rice at all.
Yes. Our full menu is available for take-out and delivery during opening hours.
Made to order at our counter, with the fish that arrived that morning.
