Aikawa is a Japanese restaurant on the island of Montreal, at Galeries des Sources in Dollard-des-Ormeaux. Not downtown — the West Island, about twenty-five minutes west along the 40, with 750+ reviews and a 4.5 rating behind us.
Montreal has no shortage of sushi downtown, so it is fair to ask. Three reasons people make the trip, and we would rather say them plainly than dress them up.
The menu is unusually wide. Sixteen kinds of nigiri, twenty-four big rolls, eighteen chef’s creations, plus hosomaki, poké bowls, sushi pizza, tartares, teriyaki and tempura. Most sushi counters carry a fraction of that.
There are two private tatami rooms. Rare in the city, and they are for birthdays, anniversaries and business dinners rather than a roped-off corner of the dining room.
Take-out costs what the menu says. We charge a flat delivery fee by postal code instead of raising menu prices for delivery, which is what most restaurants quietly do.
We are at Galeries des Sources, on Sources Boulevard in Dollard-des-Ormeaux. Coming from the east, take Highway 40 West to the Sources exit. From downtown that is about twenty-five minutes outside rush hour.
We also deliver into several Montreal boroughs, with a flat fee that depends only on your postal code — never on the size of your order.
$5 delivery: Pierrefonds-Roxboro (H8Y, H8Z), Dollard-des-Ormeaux (H9A, H9B, H9G), Kirkland (H9H), Dorval (H9P), Pointe-Claire (H9R, H9S).
$10 delivery: Saint-Laurent (H4S), Dorval airport area (H4Y), Roxboro (H9C), Île-Bizard (H9E), Beaconsfield (H9J), Kirkland west (H9W).
Both. Dollard-des-Ormeaux is on the island of Montreal, in the area known as the West Island. We are not a downtown restaurant and we do not pretend to be — if you are looking for something walkable from Sainte-Catherine, we are not it.
Within the west end of the island, yes. The flat fee is $5 or $10 depending on your postal code, and the full menu is available. Delivery pauses on December 24, 25 and 31, February 14 and Mother’s Day.
Yes, two tatami rooms, used for birthdays, anniversaries and business dinners. Call (514) 684-4333 to check availability — they book up well ahead for December.
A good part of the menu. Teriyaki, katsu and tempura plates, the all-cooked rolls marked AC, grilled eel, agedashi tofu, gyoza and the vegetarian rolls contain nothing raw.
Thirty minutes from most of Montreal, and a menu you will not get through in one visit.
